Must-Watch House Remodeling, Design and Decorating TV Shows

Posted by: john | October 20, 2015

Sometimes you just need a little inspiration. You may know you want to do something new with your home, but you may not know where to begin. Today, we have access to some of the best home improvement shows on television. While most of them make remodeling look easier than it is, they are a great source for design concepts and motivation. Here are some of our favorites and where you can catch them.

Rehab Addict – DIY Network

If you love historic homes, this one is for you. Host, Nicole Curtis, takes on some of the most severely damaged homes around Minneapolis and Detroit. She’s got a true knack for salvaging construction supplies and fixtures, and she’s passionate about bringing the former glory of a home back into the limelight. Trying to keep each renovation true to the home’s original construction while adding in modern luxuries, this home flipper is fun to watch because she’s constantly busy. As a mother and self-taught home rehabilitation expert, you can binge watch her show online, on Netflix, or with each new season on DIY Network.

Fixer Upper – HGTV

Kitchen Remodeling Columbus, OHTaking the home rehab concept down south, this show has it all. Hosted by an energetic husband-wife team -- Chip and Joanna Gains -- this Texas-based home renovation show breathes life into the worst homes on the block. Real estate pro Chip and designer Joanna start each show by showing three homes to a client. They provide the rundown of the property and what it would cost to fix it up. By the end of each episode, the home has undergone a massive transformation, often on a tight budget. The couple’s 4 children and snippets of life on a working farm make this an easy show to get hooked on. Watch it on Netflix, HGTV or on the HGTV website.

Design on a Dime – HGTV

If you’ve always wondered whether you could get that look you’ve always wanted for less, turn to this show for inspiration. Hosted by Casey Noble -- an interior designer who specializes in bringing affordability to high style -- this show takes a room and transforms it into the cohesive and themed style a client has always wanted. Take away the clever ideas presented in each episode and make them your own! Watch this one on the website or on HGTV.

This Old House – PBS

Since 1979, This Old House has been a staple home improvement show in many homes across America. Hosted by Kevin O’Connor and a team of experts, these shows feature home renovations that focus on providing home improvement ideas for viewers. Learn how to ask the right questions with the information provided on this long-running show. Catch a full episode on the website or on PBS.

What Home Improvement Shows Leave Out

Home improvement shows are fun and inspirational, but they aren’t always realistic. Remember that real-life timeframes, budgets, and new home finds are often shortened and discounted for the magic of television.
